Single: Route 500 – Molly Coddle

Molly Coddle is the first single from Brighton singer/songwriter Derek Inver’s – aka Route 500’s – forthcoming sophomore record. It seems full of awkward, anxious, nervous energy, but at the same time, feels somewhat laid-back.

This is probably down to the combination of raw emotive vocal delivery and slacker-style, Pavement-esque angular guitars. There’s also a bit of Television to some of the music here. It feels like it’s casting an eye backwards whilst at the same time bravely treading new ground.

According to the artist, “The track explores the fallout of queer trauma and accepting love in a way that allows healing to begin. It breaks heavy cycles of the past and catches up to life and its joyous chaos”.

We would say it wears its heart valiantly on its sleeve. And it’s a perfect look.
