“‘thrillseeker striking matches’ is about the body as a machine and a vehicle – about my experiences with chronic pain and panic – the terror of dissociating from your own body and over analysing the work it’s doing and how delicate it is – centered around the heart and it’s unceasing fragility – an ache to detach and relax into living without hyper-focusing on questioning its complexities.”
Recently, we had the pleasure of receiving the above quote in the submission for a new double-sided single that was released just a few days ago. The artist behind this intriguing work are Derek Inver, who also goes by the monikers d. inver and Route 500. We’ve been following their musical journey for some time now, and each release has brought something unique to the table, much to the delight of our team.
This latest single is an atmospheric track that combines elements of drone with experimental indie pop. It invokes the distinctive sounds reminiscent of Radiohead or Thom Yorke’s solo endeavors. Although I have to admit that I haven’t been the biggest fan of Radiohead in the past, this fresh interpretation of their sonic palette has genuinely captivated me. The way d. inver play with sounds and textures creates an immersive experience that draws listeners in.
What adds to the single’s charm is the accompanying music video, which perfectly complements the experimental vibe of the track. Together, they forge a powerful atmosphere that enhances the emotional depth of the music. I have found myself listening to this single on repeat, completely entranced by its haunting melodies and ethereal soundscapes.
The B-side of the single, titled “Memory Erased,” is like a cherry on top of an already delightful dessert. It features a melancholic slowcore, folky lo-fi rock vibe that resonates deeply with my musical tastes. The gentle introspection woven throughout the track further showcases d. inver’s ability to create mesmerizing and evocative music.
Overall, I encourage everyone to listen to this single. Let yourself get lost in its overwhelming melody and atmosphere; you may even find yourself forgetting the day, the time, and your surroundings as you immerse in the captivating sound world that d. inver has masterfully crafted.
