Courtyard is an alternative indie pop band from the City of Guelph, in Ontario, southeast Canada. With a sound reminiscent of a combination of Rozi Plain, Mac DeMarco, Holly Walker, and SHEBAD, their new single is an eclectic hodge-podge of elements.
The Lighthouse is a bit jazzy (that’s down to the rhythm section, we think), there’s a little bit of country (is that a pedal steel we hear?), but these are liberally mixed with strong pop sensibilities and alt-indie textures and tones.
The band is made up of Isaac Grant on tasteful, understated percussion, Jeremy Maldonado on perfectly balanced bass guitar, Matt Morgan and Simon Pequegnat on glimmering guitars, and Hanna Bennett contributing gorgeous lead vocals. They have been working on recording years of original material after reuniting after a long period of isolation.
