Cooper is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles.
‘Colors On The Wall’ is the 2nd of 3 singles to be taken from his forthcoming second album ‘Ovular Infinity’, which is due on October 17th.
Cooper says, “This song is like a fever dreamscape. It…questions what’s real and what’s created in the mind”.
A fast strumming guitar starts things off, and there’s some lovely finger squeaks, together with a low-key, shuffling rhythm that draws you in.
“Tell me, have you ever seen Sunlight through a summer screen
Drops of dew refracting Colors on the wall?”.
It’s an ethereal sound with beautifully judged vocals. They are silky smooth with subtle harmonies that add width, and I loved the way the melody rises and then falls in the first section – it felt very Beatles-esque to me. The back and forth, call and response between the two vocals is a great touch too.
There is a pulse, a heartbeat to the song – things seem to repeat in slow waves, which means it feels really soothing and almost hypnotic.
Throughout the track, the beautiful, melancholic melody often resolves with a honey-dipped descending cadence – helping to ease the tension, but maintaining that strange sadness.
The track shifts slightly towards the end as the previously constant organs disappear, bringing an extra clarity and focus.
A unique, immersive track that manages to paint a vivid picture, ‘Colors On The Wall’ is out now.
