A cover of a cult classic from the 1990s UK shoegaze icons, Moose, that ends up more guitar-driven than the original, London/Leeds-based quartet Cloud Studies have really done this one justice.
Taking the loose feel of the original track and confining it to a much more rigid, thumping, song-serving, rhythmic framework – the Cloud Studies version ends up falling somewhere between Alvvays, The Cranberries, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine & The Jesus & Mary Chain. Guest starring Kirstin Isolde Lavender on lead vocals, the resulting tune is a hazy, atmospheric dreamgaze masterpiece and should be considered a how-to guide for aspiring dreampop/shoegaze musicians everywhere.
Commissioned by the Afterglow Echoplex shoegaze podcast in Portland, Oregon, this is one of many songs that will be featured in a series of tributes to classic songs from the original shoegaze era.
