Gabe Parker is a solo DIY/bedroom pop artist from Tampa, Florida, creating music in his bedroom studio under the moniker Peli Gene. For his latest indie pop single “Waiting on You”, Peli Gene teamed up with Chi & Me, bringing us a song that sounds weightless and sunny.
The lyrics suggest otherwise as the song grapples with the frustration and tension of “being stuck in a cycle with someone or something that never really changes.” Parker opens up the song singing: “Said too much of it / I wanna get away, try to get away from it / Sometimes I know / That nothing gonna change nothing’s gonna change from it.”
As the song continues it is clear that the protagonist is fighting against himself, recognizing the constant unresolved desire for something different despite deciding to stay.
