I’m always excited to share music from rising groups who – for me – are local. So here’s the new single “Calm & Delivered” from Cape Crush, a power-emo band making waves beyond their home turf of Beverly, Massachusetts. It’s the first of four off their debut album Place Memory, coming out this May.
We’ve covered Cape Crush before, but just a refresher: The band is Ali Lipman (vox/guitar), James Christopher (guitar), Jake Letizia (bass), and Mike O’Toole (drums), stepping in for original drummer Cody Rico. The band broke out in 2023 with their San Souci EP, making a big splash in the New England DIY hardcore scene and going on to earn multiple accolades since, including a nomination for the 2025 Boston Music Awards’ Punk/Hardcore Artist of the Year.
But despite the rush of attention on the band, it hasn’t stopped them from working on the tracks for Place Memory, with some of the songs going back to the band’s beginnings. Tracks like “Calm & Delivered” come from very personal places. Lipman subverts the title of the song, which was inspired by a conversation with a friend, singing about the trials of keeping it together in the world.
“It’s inspired by my journey as a parent, which is often too loud, as well as my journey as a woman, where setting boundaries is often interpreted poorly,” Lipman says about the track. “So it’s really about finding your inner power as a woman and not being afraid of your rage or frustration.”
Falling somewhere between the Get Up Kids, Jimmy Eat World, and The Beths, “Calm & Delivered” showcases Cape Crush’s anthemic punk sound and provides a first preview of the kind of lyrical and musical power their debut album will bring. Take a listen to the new single and follow Cape Crush to keep up with all the buzz around them, and Place Memory below.
