One of my favorite artists is at it again, releasing an ethereal new single called “melt”. I’ve covered airhockey before, and funnily enough I used the word ‘melt’ in my review when speaking about the incessant Florida heat. This time though, the word is being used to reference something a bit different.
“melt” is self-recorded, self-produced, and one of the final singles to be released leading up to their upcoming LP release in early 2027. “melt” feels magical, with twinkly guitars and a tambourine that is truly glitter in its personified form. The vocals are a bit distant, a dreampop/shoegaze staple, but add a whole new layer of sounds and melodies to this already stacked song. I’m particularly in love with the guitar melody as it plays in tandem with the vocal melody during the chorus, creating a hazy atmosphere you just sink into without effort.
The lyrics paint a picture of finding a person that you click with perfectly, and your souls effortlessly meld, almost creating a new organism altogether. There’s a specific sort of emotion and spiritual experience that occurs when you’re lucky enough to have this be your reality. It’s simple in that it just seems to happen naturally, yet complex in its explanation.
Honestly, this song couldn’t have come at a better time. With the seasons changing and Halloween just around the corner, I seek out music that makes me feel connected and rooted to the people I love and things I enjoy. Maybe it’s a bit on the nose, but I yearn for an extreme sense of melting into my reality and pleasures during this time of year. Now I have the perfect song to accompany me in that journey.
I couldn’t be more excited for airhockey’s LP release in early 2027, and I’m confident that you’ll feel the same if you check this song out; so please do!
