EP: Mildred Kid – First Four Reggae Kids

“we are a brazilian band made of a bunch of teenagers” is how Mildred Kid describe themselves!

‘First Four Reggae Kids’ is their new EP, and it sounds like they had TONS of fun creating and recording it.

Three songs, all under two minutes, with an epic cover to go with it, that looks like an old school scrapbook style collage of seemingly random shapes, drawings, and photos that may or may not have some meaning that only the band knows of!

After all, this is punk rock, much more on the punk side. All the songs are pretty fast and upbeat, with a very DIY sound and a characteristic punk tone on the vocals, which usually means “I don’t care” or “I am sick of this,” and are generally opposed to the mainstream. The vocals are super well-executed. Punk is supposed to be very raw and honest, and this EP is definitely all of the above.

I love how they sing the melody of the chorus -chipmunk style- on ‘The Baggy Jeans Don’t Mean Anything’ and as for references, they are definitely following a US punk style (thankfully not UK!) with probably some more punk rock elements that were passed on from generation to generation from Greenway and The Offspring to Blink 182 and other bands to find their way in the riffs of a teenage band from Brazil!
