From the opening notes, Ben Varian’s and Sarah Safaie’s ark’s joy creates a serene experience for listeners. There is something inherently hopeful infused within their style of avant-pop jazz. Jazz is a genre that is limitless and without restrictions. Varian and Safaie have embarked on a sonic journey that will bring your human ears absolute joy. One of the tracks that elevate and keep that joy in place is the experimental joonam, which features some vocal work from Sarah. It is weird and delightful in all the best ways.
The momentum shifts gear into something more upbeat and frantic on the following track bulls in ascension which feels like an auditory stampede. Imagine you are driving in your automobile (either electric or gas-powered) and ripping through traffic, and there are bulls who are seeking out the color red. Hopefully, your automobile is not that color. If so, Mustard recommends turning to the side to prevent any potential impact. Following this track is another experimental song with some sci-fi-inspired sounds that will have you bracing yourself for abduction. After our abduction, we transition again to another frantic and high-paced song in yadda+. If you are anything like Mustard’s human assistant, this song will motivate you to powerwalk to the gym before it closes.
Closing out the album is the title track, which beautifully ties everything together. Its composition is hopeful and inspiring. You will feel as if you are floating on a cloud while an Eagle flies by, providing you with comfort that everything will work out. It doesn’t always seem like it will, but the spirit of the Eagle finds its way into your heart and body. Your newfound spirit will carry you into new situations that may seem daunting at first. But with ark’s joy as your soundtrack, you will be able to overcome whatever situation is put in front of you.
