Pynch returns with a hilariously fun track about making DIY songs in your home studio.
The London band are coming off the 2023 album Howling At A Concrete Moon with a new single titled Post Punk/New Wave. The minute you press play, you know you’re in for what seems like a really well-executed satire song about how many genres of music are out there, but what you really get is almost the story of the band and how they make music. With lyrics like “I’m playing with a drum machine, I’m glued to my laptop screen, I don’t know what I’m doing”.
I really like how they talk about the creativity step of making, not only music but any form of art. Maybe you don’t know what you’re doing, but just play around with it, write some thoughts down. As someone who likes to write but sometimes can’t get through that messy creativity phase, these guys make it sound so easy, but it’s really inspiring. The song is also really catchy, fun, and well put together. Going back to the drum machine line, when he started talking about it, that’s when the drumline came in, which I thought was really clever.
This is the first single from their upcoming album called Beautiful Noise, which is planned for release on October 3, 2025, courtesy of Chillburn Recordings. This album is going to be more introspective and less political than the previous, saying, “We wanted to make a record that’s authentic and reflective of who we are.” I think Post Punk / New Wave reflects what they are trying to do, and I can’t wait to check out more in October.
