Single: Honey I’m Home – Hyperspace Mountain

A band in full creative flow, evolving so fast it feels as though they are reshaping the world around them.

It’s always nice when we at Start-Track headquarters get to witness the early stages of a band destined for great things.

Dutch 5-piece Honey I’m Home is one such band. We’ve written about them many times before (see here), so I was excited to hear their latest single.

The band says ‘Hyperspace Mountain’ explores the notion of minimizing oneself, the bad habit of people-pleasing, and the feeling that you need to put yourself in the back seat in your own life.

Opening with a slightly ‘proggy’ guitar arpeggio, things quickly give way to a wildly explosive riff that feels like it’s tearing the fabric of spacetime itself. I found it hard to tell if it was a guitar or a synth – either way, it sounds immense.

Vocals are sometimes buried, sometimes upfront –  sometimes fragile, sometimes powerful – but there is always a soaring melody and a biting emotional edge.

A raw snare, a pulsating bass, and everything turned up to 11 means’ Hyperspace Mountain’ has a crunchy, home-made sound that hits hard.

The dreamy breakdown offers a brief respite before the crashing onslaught of that fuzzball motif returns. It’s a menacing presence in the background throughout much of the song, and then – with a crisp hi-hat – everything stops on a dime.

Honey I’m Home might be a relatively new presence on the scene. Still, they already have a strong identity and plenty of ideas about the future – the band writes “the track reflects how we see the new wave of shoegaze evolving: an intense guitar-driven track that leans heavily on electronic sounds.”

‘Hyperspace Mountain’ is only their 5th single, but it captures a band in full creative flow, evolving so fast it feels as though they are reshaping the world around them.
