Single: Victories – The Great Mistake

The Great Mistake” by Victories is a high-energy Montreal pop-punk track about a chaotic, irresistible bad decision of a person. Think A Day To Remember meets The Story So Far — tight verses, explosive chorus, instant singalong. Fits naturally alongside current pop-punk revival playlists and Warped Tour nostalgia programming.

A quote from the press release we received from this band sharing the newest single. The band is already known to us, as we have covered their previous releases, which I personally enjoyed very much. These punk rockers from Montreal aren’t only channeling great energy in their song, but they are bringing me back to my teenage days when Blink-182, Angels & Airwaves, or NOFX were on repeat. I felt so nostalgic listening to this one. Punk, especially pop punk, has always had a special place in my heart, as it shaped my musical tastes from then on.

The quote above promised tight verses, an explosive chorus, and an instant singalong, and I can confirm that I couldn’t resist joining in and lending my voice to their music. I am even sharing the lyrics below so you can listen to the song and sing along.

I imagine myself grabbing my car keys, driving to a friend’s house to a secret house party with a secret guest band. This band starts, the crowd moshes, and the crowd goes wild. Cops will come, and you will not care because life is great when you can listen to music like hits.

I have a hunch this one will be played on repeat in my ears for weeks to come. I couldn’t even resist; I took a break from my editor role and had to write about this one myself, as it perfectly reflects the mood I have been in over the past few weeks. Craving for that crowd that goes wild to let the steam off and feel connected to music.

I met her at a bar in San Diego
knew I was in trouble from the start
my mother always said short girls are evil
but she don’t wanna make out in the car

rebel girl we were listening to punk rock
blue hair tattoos why the fuck not?
I just can’t get this girl out of my head
she’s the start of my regrets

The Great Mistake a devil with a pretty face
she got me high and then she said I was a
Fuck up Fuck up Fuck up
and that I need to Shut up Shut up Shut up
she’ll always be The Great Mistake

you always cut me down I need to let go
knew that it would hurt right from the start
my mother always said I should be careful
why am I surprised she broke my heart?

yesterday we were listening to punk rock
gets her way now she’s finished with the small talk
she’s got me wishing I was dead
she’s the one that I regret

The Great Mistake a devil with a pretty face
she got me high and then she said I was a
Fuck up Fuck up Fuck up
and that I need to Shut up Shut up Shut up
she’ll always be The Great Mistake
she’s The Great Mistake

Now’s a good time to practice your air guitar
Go ahead. Nobody is watching. Play along!
Just kidding. We totally saw that.
You did good! Just try to twerk less next time

The Great Mistake a devil with a pretty face
she got me high and then she said I was a
Fuck up Fuck up Fuck up
and that I need to Shut up Shut up Shut up
she’ll always be The Great Mistake
