To describe “Introvert Bossa”, it is fair to compare this to an existing song: “Here” by Alessia Cara. Essentially, the song expresses a desire, after meeting with people who hold no significance to her, to just go home and listen to music. But with Space Cowboy Newt, it feels like there is an enjoyment to their time alone.
Bossanova itself is a relaxing segment of Latin jazz. Over it, hearing them say “I’m friends with the things I collect on my shelves” is not only believable, but—and perhaps, this is a consequence of such chill nature, it makes you want to chill with them. Luckily, right around the time that the chorus hits, it feels like you are traveling through the headphones into a whole other world. Alessia Cara never gave us this luxury.
But this song also hints at the thing people don’t understand about introverts: they want people who are going to actually show them a good time and connect on a personal and intellectual level. Otherwise, you are just wasting “social battery” on crass jokes and superficial meets.
“I wanted some connection, but you’re suffocating me,” they sing, sound quality that shifts from hi-fi to low at the end will signal not only the jettison into their dream world, but also a signal that you don’t have to go home, but you cannot stay with them. Shucks.
