The album in question has been sitting amidst my bookmarks since the day of its release, waiting to be shared with the world. Fortunately, the folks at Good Eye Records (who released it) have reminded me of its existence once again. It’s never too late to spread the word about a great album, regardless of when it was released. In my previous post, I shared a complete press release along with a single from this album, so I won’t repeat myself. However, I must mention once again that the album is a must-listen for all music enthusiasts.
“In 2022 McLellan and his partner discovered they were expecting, and with fatherhood approaching he began to re-evaluate ideation, creativity, and his identity as an artist in a post-covid landscape. Armed with a cheap guitar and a borrowed iMac with a cracked screen, he set about leaving a diary entry for his daughter- a view into her parent’s lives in the months leading up to her birth: Forever Now.”
Plymouth-based Max McLellan is the mastermind behind Physic Shakes, and he has been making music since 2016. The new album is a masterpiece filled with energetic lo-fi, dreamy indie rock songs that will capture your attention from the very start. For example, I have been listening to one of the singles on repeat for weeks, and I still can’t get enough of it. This one:
If you’re looking for a fresh and energizing musical experience, I highly recommend listening to the entire album from start to finish. The dynamic mix of upbeat tracks and mellow, folky tunes like “When We Die” or “Island” will keep you engaged and entertained throughout the entire album. The melodies are truly captivating and are sure to stay with you long after the music has stopped. Give it a listen and let yourself get carried away by the captivating rhythms and catchy tunes.
It’s a true hidden gem from 2023 that many of you may have missed, but it’s never too late to give it the attention it deserves. I enjoyed every bit of this album, and I’m confident that you will too.
