Mariek is a dream pop solo project of Maria, a 23-year-old artist based in Moscow. These are two new singles, Point of View & Dust and Days, that have been released in the past week and are coming from the upcoming debut EP. The music is taking influence from artists Day Wave and Far Caspian and has a definite dreamy quality. Maria has been producing, mixing, and writing all of these songs. She also taught herself to play bass, electric guitar, and keys so she could make music as a way to connect with someone who might relate to it.
I must admit that we have been avoiding Russian music for a while but decided that the artists hsould not be punished from crime regime they are part of or stupid politicians they rule them. With music we can overcome the burned bridges and connect together and shared love for music.
It you have been following our blog in recent years, you have been able to find variations of dream pop all over the writings. We have been not solely focusing on this genre, but somehow we were getting a lot of music and the genre is still quite popular one.
I like how Mariek is taking a familiar sound that has been floating around, taking it and giving it a personal touch that makes the song still quite catchy and entertaining. I have been hearing a lot familiar sounds that have been reminding me of artist that I truly enjoy like Beach Fossils. The artist is already proving a lot of talent by sharing these two tracks, and I am intrigued by how the new EP will sound.
It is quite a special feeling that someone in the Moscow flat (or home) is making such dreamy, catchy indie rock that could connect with anyone out there looking for such a sound.
The both songs have a nice lyric video so you can sing along and enjoy the lyrics as well. I wish more artists were doing something like that so we could connect with the vocals much easier. Especially catchy, dreamy music needs lyrics so you can listen to it on repeat and even sing along.
