big heck is a brand-new project from an independent artist based in Sydney, Australia. They have released a new single, Secret Blue Trinket, which two other singles have accompanied have accompanied on streaming platforms. The second one, “Sorry, The Theatre is Closed,” is a poem performed by the artist, and the last one, “Falling at the Speed of Paper,” is a hyper-pop, dreamy song. The artist is blending emotional pop with energetic alt-rock and dreamy autotune ballad. It could not be more different than this, but I am totally captivated by the variety the artist is bringing to the table.
There is a new album in the works, and the artist shared on Instagram a little quote about it:
“my upcoming album is half social h*cking, the macro, and half tiny personal anecdotes, the micro, I’m trying to thread the two together to paint out how 2025 feels. I really hope it’s going to age terribly.”
Already, this little quote promises an interesting concept for the album, and I look forward to hearing it once it is out. The singles that are out are already showcasing great talent and a multifaceted approach to songwriting, which is something I would love to see even more of.
One thing that I found unifying across all three songs is the ability to create powerful builds that create mesmerising energy. Whether it is by using synths, guitars or vocals, I have been listening to the song on repeat and cannot get enough of the variety of moods, sounds and energy it brings to the table. I am intrigued by the overall sound of the album, but this is promising – already something special.
These songs may sound chaotic, but they accurately represent the life we live. You may need to hear energetic yet dreamy alt-rock, or you may need to get lost in the power of words in a poem or get lost in hyper-dream pop. big heck has it all, and I am excited to discover more from this new Australian artist.
