Watson Park, a Massachusetts-based band, released their newest single, “Boxes”, on October 18, 2024, and I am absolutely in love with it. Comprised of Evan Joseph Ringle, Troy Hartmann, Ryan Sinclair, and Mik Jeromineck, Watson Park is an indie-rock and folk (and etc.) band that deserves to blow up and go viral.
“Boxes” is an indie/folk track that captures so many emotions in the instrumentals and the vocals, it holds so much power in its sound, it enraptured me and threw me head-first into a daydream. With “Boxes” I am reminded of so many things. I think of both the power and feelings of autumn and of spring, I think of when I started college, walking to classes across a tree-lined campus all by myself, not quite sure what to make of any of it. It reminds me, almost, of every time I did something scary or went somewhere scary by myself, so anxious and so worried and so afraid because I was alone, but then met someone who turned the black-and-white thriller I was living in into a technicolor sitcom; but all of that is just how it sounds.
The lyrics themselves are incredible, and it’s obvious that Watson Park is very talented lyrically and musically. There’s a verse in “Boxes” that has me in a complete chokehold: “I used to be here, but that was such a long time ago, and I still live here, the person gone that they had known, with all these boxes, nothing here can feel like home, the life from another life hasn’t left quite yet”. I think everyone feels some similar kind of way at some point in their lives and can relate those feelings to this verse. I know that I have. Their lyricism is so, so powerful and so enchanting, so captivating, and I absolutely love the way that Watson Park illustrates these emotions.
Watson Park is such an incredible, powerful musical force that I am so excited to share with everyone. They are able to capture so much emotion and so much emotional power in both their instrumentals and their lyrics and they have taken my mind and heart hostage and I don’t think that I’ll ever be able to ask for it back.
