Great Horned Owl–from Portland, Oregon– has recently graced us with their debut single Disappear, from their upcoming album Longyear. Great Horned Owl is the indie folk project of singer/songwriter Vanderson Langjahr. Drawing inspiration from the beauty and lush landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, Disappear showcases Langjahr’s intricate songwriting in lyrics and instrumentation.
Disappear is packed with texture and raw emotion. Singing of wanting to disappear and become a ghost, the lyrics pair well with its haunting melody. Though the song is on the slower side, it has a beautiful build into full soundscapes complete with MJ Lenderman’s style pedal steel and a nylon string guitar.
The production value is there, and it leaves you wanting more. Luckily, Longyear is on its way to providing. Be on the lookout for Great Horned Owl’s upcoming album later this year, and give Disappear a listen in the meantime.
