Single: Viruette – SWAYA

“Red-blooded” funky indie from Boston-based trans-Atlantic rockers gets the blood pumping ahead of their new album.

Chat, lemme tell you something. I work from home. I spend about eight hours a day sending out my little emails, typing on my little laptop, and getting mad at little things in Microsoft Word. And when I can get out of my little house and go out and see a band play a show in a nice big venue full of people, where I can spread myself out and sway to some big-sounding music, that’s when I truly live. The MBTI used to call me an introvert, and it lied.

So it makes sense why Viruette calls their new single “SWAYA” “red-blooded”, because the music bubbles through my veins. This is the kind of track that makes me want to stop everything I’m doing, get up from my chair, or get out of my house, and dance in the street. The guitars sing, the bass pulses, the drums snap, and the vocals form multi-octave harmonies that get under my feet and help me fly, and that’s the kind of musical energy I (and you, and everyone on this planet) need in this second quarter of our increasingly sketchy 21st century.

Last time we mentioned Viruette here was in 2024, when their debut album, Your Lacuna, dropped. The Boston-based “trans-Atlantic indie rock” group’s second record, MERIDIAN, drops soon, and if “SWAYA” is any indication of what’s to come, we’ll get to hear more of their funky off-kilter melodies and atypical song structures and feel them carry us toward good vibes. We need all the good vibes we can get these days, don’t you think?
