Single: Orange Doors – Gizmo Gadget

Opening with jaunty guitar, “Gizmo Gadget” erupts into big, energetic noise-making.

This is not a criticism: Orange Doors’ Ian Russell traces the roots of the band back to High School marching band days, and it’s no surprise this is how “Gizmo Gadget” feels. Confident strings give way to bright horns that evoke early 2000’s New Pornographers and Beck, with a fuzzy vocal track that feels signature.

Despite the confident sound, the lyrics themselves speak to the back and forth between cocksure and faltering: An exploration of what it feels like to trip over your own shoelaces and get up to dust yourself off. Russell himself notes the track looks at “…the constant realization that everyone is going through the same pressure of some sort, so might as well chill out and take the ride.” The sound and lyrics blend into a snappy, psych-rock reminder that “we’re all in it the same.”

“Gizmo Gadget” joins lead single “Infection” on Corn Planet, due to be self-released on June 12, 2026. If this is what the ride sounds like, I for one am excited to buy the ticket. Take a listen to the new single below.
