Single: Underneath The Lookout – City Lights

Back in May, Underneath the Lookout surprised me with their debut single, a nice calm dub and reggae track that had me excited for what was coming next- and today, the suspense has finally abated with another single. While the first track featured Craig as vocalist and had Suzy on backing vocals, this track is sung exclusively by Suzy, giving the track a completely different feel. The keyboard and melodica from the first track are staples for the sound and the duo excels again in this department. However, the first track felt like a slow reggae song, this one feels more inspired by Kate Bush or Debbie Gibson. The song is nice and relaxing but surprisingly upbeat. The underlying melody is simple but the song feels somewhat fun and playful with the keys and melodica, while the vocals are outstanding. While the first single left me excited for what comes next, this single leaves me curious about what might come next. These two singles definitely share some common themes, but they are so different it makes it hard to know exactly where a third single might go. My guesses are that it will be something soothing, relaxing, catchy, and have some dub and reggae influences, but given each member’s other bands and influences, that could be a complete miss. Only time will tell, and I’ll just enjoy this until it’s time to find out.
