Goldstar was recorded entirely on a Tascam 4-track. It’s full of charm, personality, and warmth. Production? You won’t find that here. Mixing? Nope? Engineering? Get out. But what Goldstar lacks in finesse, it makes up for in feel. We would suggest, based on the vibe here, that the Cincinnati, Ohio-based songsmith is a fan of the work of Steven Antony, Alex G, Low, and Swiss Portrait, and this certainly comes through in the songwriting.
It reminds us a bit of Ben Gibbard’s work as ¡All-Time Quarterback! – or maybe even some of the Death Cab demos. There’s a ramshackle, unpolished, lo-fi gleam to Goldstar – like a bedroom indie diamond that hasn’t yet been cut.
If the “finished” version ever sees the light of day, we’ll be very interested to hear it. A full EP is due to be released on December 5th, 2025.
