A cult classic in the making, the new tune from The Parlor has some serious rock ‘n’ roll style.
Coming across like a hybrid of The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s retro-leaning psych sound and the haze of acts like Mazzy Star or Cocteau Twins, The Sacred Is The Sweetest is the latest in a long list of accomplishments.
Named after the room in the 19th-century farmhouse in which they create their music, The Parlor is a husband and wife duo (Eric Krans and Jen O’Connor) who have been making music together since way back in 1998. The 2nd single from their forthcoming “Sun By Day | Moon By Night” LP (described by the band as “a concept double album exploring psychological shadow work through sound collage and alt-dream-grunge textures”), there is more to The Sacred Is The Sweetest than retro vibes alone.
We’re also reminded a bit of British trio Little Barrie (best known for being the band behind the Better Call Saul theme tune), BRMC, and even Beady Eye.
With coverage in the past from the likes of Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, KEXP, and Bandcamp Weekly, the band shows no signs of slowing down with this one. That new double album can’t come soon enough.
