I’ve written with praise on The Noisy before, and the review of this song will be no different. “Nightshade” is driven by a commanding voice that never falters, even as it navigates intense lyricism. It’s the strength in Sara Mae’s delivery that allows vulnerability to move so freely through the track, unguarded and unapologetic. The guitar and percussion build toward a stunning breakdown near the end, mirroring the emotional arc with striking precision.
The descendo captures the unravelling of a love story, tracing the moment of reckoning when you realise you love someone more than yourself, or that their gaze has begun to wander. Beneath the heartbreak, there’s a sense of control and collaboration in the instrumentation that Sara Mae handles with remarkable finesse.
