Single: The Noisy – Grenadine

Philly dream pop/synth rock band The Noisy got its start in Knoxville, Tennessee, as a solo project of award-winning poet Sara Mae Henke. In spring 2023, after evolving from a solo project of Sara Mae to a full band, they released “Morricone” with a Strega Nona meets Clint Eastwood music video, launching a crowdfunding campaign for their debut album, ‘The Secret Ingredient is More Meat.’ The band sold merch, raffled a cowboy hat, and ran a GoFundMe alongside a month-long tour, raising over $3,000 to bring this debut to life—an album for their queer community.

“Grenadine” is the second single from the upcoming collection ‘The Secret Ingredient is More Meat’.

This song is orchestrated in a way that makes it flow like water. The hypnotic drums and bass repeated beat, which goes into a nice variation using toms off the beat to take us to the chorus. The sweet, cinematic atmosphere is created by a soft pad, subtle guitar strumming and chords. The singer’s voice reminds me of a very young Sheryl Crow (but without the heavy country twang).

And the brass part in the chorus, which blends the whole thing together while she sings “16 and see through”.

It reminds me of some arrangements Aerosmith have done in some of their more emotional songs, but without that blues/rock element. Definitely a song that could be synced in a coming-of-age movie in a small town with a drive-in, where teenagers dream of escaping the boredom and having some excitement and adventures!
