Last year, as many of us were, Horses were drinking sweet pints in the summer sun, filled with excitement about seeing Oasis come back to Manchester in Heaton Park. A moment of British music history. Tyler Wyatt had just come off the breakup of his previous band, Surfliner. Johnny Burke, who’d been playing on and off since the days of his college band Sea Pieces, was sitting on a backlog of ideas. Obsessive work followed, and the boys from Boston are here a year later with their debut single, Block. A loud arrival into the indie rock music scene, a clear bleed of Oasis summer can be heard throughout this anthem. Heavy drums blended with light guitars and almost surf-rock-like vocals create a harmony not so dissimilar to Dinosaur Jr. The playful lyrics and classic rock style give a lot of promise for what’s to come from a band that gives a lot of nostalgia for the 1990s.
