Swiss Portrait, the project of Edinburgh-based artist Michael Kay Terence, released “Sleep Easy” on June 11th, the third single off his 2026 album. Swiss Portrait is truly an impressive artist; the single was written, recorded, mixed, mastered, and produced entirely by Terrence himself in his bedroom in Glasgow. Terrence also handled the guitar truly well on this track.
Sonically. “Sleep Easy” is a dreamy synth pop at its most tender. Terence’s vocals are incredibly soft throughout, almost like a whisper, which makes his sound unique. The fragility of his voice makes the song complete to me and delivers the emotional weight to the single. In the production, there is also an intimacy that feels true to his bedroom origins; he never lost that intimacy, and there was never a jarring shift in sound. He never overproduces or overpolishes his work; there is a closeness in his songs that has stayed with me when I went back and listened to his earlier work.
Lyrically, the song, in my opinion, reads as if watching a relationship slip out of reach in real time. “I want to see how far you get,” and “I lost you there, two steps too far” carry a quiet heartbreak, the sense of distance growing as the other person holds on to what might still be. To me as well, the repeated “sleep easy please, sleep easy” feels like a comfort rather than releasing the person, in a way the sleep would mask the suppressed emotions the other person is withholding.
To me, the standout moment in the song is the repetition of “it’s all the same to you, to you,” and then it lands with such a soft ache. The song perfectly captures the specific loneliness of caring for someone who has already moved past. Terrence’s delivery lyrically is amazing to me.
“Sleep Easy” is a beautiful track, and it’s a strong continuation of what Swiss Portrait has been building for their album.
