I think that most people have sat in the aftermath of a failed relationship and taken stock of what went wrong. The self blame still fresh and palpable as one tries to make sense of everything. Eventually, we all gather ourselves up, give ourselves a pep talk, and vow to be better moving forward.
That is the essence of what “Be A Better Man” by Cincinnati-based Sungaze is about. The vocal performance delivers a longing for change that multiplies everything conveyed in the lyrics tenfold. Everything about the song captures a single moment in time that runs a gauntlet of emotions from sorrow and desire to resolve. It is quite lovely, especially when it is paired in melodic effects with a laden guitar. The guitar solo midway in the song showcases the group’s shoegaze-heavy pop sound.
“Be A Better Man” is from Sungaze’s upcoming fourth album titled I’m No Longer Afraid Of Heights, releasing May 22. If this song has piqued your interest, I suggest heading over to their Bandcamp and listening to the other songs on the album that have been released. If you are a lover of lush-sounding shoegaze dreampop, I think a pre-order may be warranted. Take a listen to “Be A Better Man” below.
