Released on October 7th, the single ‘Halloween’ by Sulka captures the moody atmosphere of a cold, brisk fall afternoon, with an edge of unease. It depicts a restless, troubling relationship bound to end. Using lyrics such as, “Oh no, what’s on your mind?” And “I’ve been up all through the night”. There is a tenderness to the composition, presenting gentle, hushed vocals that melt into the rhythmic strumming of an acoustic guitar. I would describe this track as an eerie autumnal dreamscape. The simple yet effective use of the crashes and kicks of the drums steadily beating in the foreground helps push the moodiness forward, as well as keeping the overall tone crisp, with a gentle bite.
