Single: Steven Anthony – Learn How To Sink

The new tune from enigmatic singer-songwriter Stephen Anthony is an atmospheric amalgamation of many individually compelling components.

They combine to make something soothing but at the same time kind of disconcerting, and altogether transcendent. The vocal delivery is sombre and pensive, shrouded in yet more mystery as it’s obscured by a patchwork of nature-based field recordings, ethereal synths, spoken word voice notes, delicate guitars, minimal drums, and the amplified scraping of skin on steel strings.

It’s part slowcore, part dreampop and entirely captivating. Aspects of it remind us, in part, of The National, early Bon Iver (specifically in the backing vocals) and also the rather unique Start Track artist Ghost Orange.

We know nothing about Stephen Anthony apart from the fact that he resides in America. Still, we are thoroughly under his spell and would love to learn more about him. Here’s hoping for more from him in the not-too-distant future.
