Sound System Seven is one of a growing number of ska bands out of North Carolina. After dropping their first second EP late in 2023, the reggae and jazz-infused ska band immediately started recording and putting out more tracks. Revolution is the second single in 2024 and they promise more to come still. When you have a lot to say, you start putting out music to spread that message, and Revolution assures us that Sound System Seven has plenty to say.
Revolution is definitely more of a reggae track than a ska track, nice and slow, and lyrically driven, but it definitely has some jazzy instrumental bridges to keep the mood and flow, and the horns are pretty damn sultry in the breakdown, as is the guitar in the final chorus. But this song is not about the jam session- it’s all about the call to action- the revolution against corrupt governments all over the world. When the Revolution comes it don’t matter where the boot was made when it stands on your neck. This isn’t a call to vote for your preferred politician who will liberate you from the tyranny of the party you oppose. Revolution is needed, and your participation is necessary. Everyone must own their share in Revolution- but damn, do they make it sound good with those horns and guitars. Remember, the only good system is a sound system.
