Pets, an Austin, Texas-based band made up of Kevin Garcia, Colin Campbell, Stanislav Sobolevsky, and Joshua Diaz, has perfected the dreamy, hazy, hypnotic sound that I keep finding myself drawn to more and more lately. Their most recent single, “Fixed Taunt”, was part of a split with the band Motorsports (and I also really enjoy their single, too).
“Fixed Taunt” has that dreamy sound that I’ve been chasing after for a while – it’s the sort of dreamy, hazy sound that reminds me of colder autumn days, of running around with friends on Halloween night, and being downtown in a big city at night. It’s a very unique sound that captures a lot of emotions and a lot of moments, and Pets does an incredible job at creating both powerful dissonance and compelling harmonies that coexist perfectly, they fit together like pieces of a puzzle, adding so much depth to “Fixed Taunt”. Pets has a bright future ahead of them with an incredible first release like “Fixed Taunt” and I’m excited to see what they do next.
