Right off the bat, “Raw Power” lived up to its name. The strength of the drum intro alone got my attention. This densely-layered track felt right at home to my alternative rock sensibilities. The lead guitar and melody prove to be the two standouts. There’s an angsty vocal deep in the mix, forcing you to listen closer and take in the dense production.
Sloome does a fantastic job making the song sound like a crunchy vision into the future. Even then, it still has the potential to warm the heart of any 90s rock fan too. You could pick out any one element as being connected to shoegaze, grunge, or even an ounce of punk. There’s also a hint of My Bloody Valentine within this single. Whether or not it’s intentional, I appreciate the loose connections to “Loveless” embedded within some of this DNA.
This song also features the kind of structure and tension that draws you in. To the songwriters, I commend them for hooking me and making me want to re-listen. You can’t quite take it all in the first time anyway. The melody compels me to hit play a few more times to hear something new.
This song can also be found on their album “Blue Fire Doom.” The record comes out April 24, 2026. Take a listen to the new single and follow Sloome on socials below.
