Single: READY ATLANTIC – DOWN IN KISSES

An accessible pop masterclass but also exceptionally arty and single-minded in its genre-bending execution.

Like Le Tigre and Love Is All collaborating on a New Order/Test Icicles mash-up, READY ATLANTIC brings the dance punk energy on “DOWN IN KISSES”.

It’s an accessible pop masterclass but also exceptionally arty and single-minded in its genre-bending execution.

The product of a collaboration between Norwegian-American Ruth Mirsky (formerly of The Drums, Syvia, and The Familiar) and award-winning Norwegian producer and cinematographer Carl Christian Lein Størmer (Oter, Die X Legend, There’s Always Next Season), “DOWN IN KISSES” is a vibrant, vivacious victory.

A bit like Blue Monday on speed, it pulsates and pushes, forcing the listener to oscillate between headbanging and skanking with the instrumentation veering back and forth and also hovering in between genres. Spiky synths, persistent beats, sharp guitars, and striking punk/pop vocals – they make quite a combination.

It’s not a groundbreaking or trailblazing combination – dance and punk – in fact, it’s tried and tested – see ESG, LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, The Faint, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc. – but it’s something that has, to us at least, become increasingly less common over the last decade or so. READY ATLANTIC is clearly doing its bit to bring it back, and we’re absolutely here for it.

Take a listen to “DOWN IN KISSES” below.
