Summer is coming and with that brings fresh opportunities, different perspectives and lots of rain (both physical and more metaphorical), as so excellently detailed in Raine’s aptly named single “Summer Rain”.
The song feels like a gentle breeze on a warm day, the cozy atmosphere amplified by the London based artist’s gentle vocals that flow like honey. The song is a standout in her already impressive discography, including hits like “Play Dough” and her much revered debut “Girls Who Don’t Like Girls”. The addictive essence of Raine that keeps people coming back for more is perfectly captured here, from the smooth hum of the bass to the clever addition of rain sounds that haunt the closing of the song.
To me, “Summer Rain” is a love song, specifically for the beginning of a relationship, or maybe when both people have that crush but are too scared to do anything about it yet. That unsure excitement — the butterflies — arise with every tiny interaction. With lyrics including “Call you up and ask you what you’re doing tonight / if you want a cozy place to waste your time, we can lie on the roof / falling like summer rain”, it’s easy to see where I’m going with this line of thought.
Raine’s always been good at capturing relationships and this track isn’t any different. “Summer Rain” proves that the singer has a bright future ahead of her. Take a listen to the new single below.
