Single: Pinkpool – Wrong

Wrong never felt so right!

Berlin’s newest emo band, Pinkpool, is a group of seasoned music students & performers who, ahead of their debut album this spring, have released their first single, “Wrong”.

A subtle click track and the clean, lightly strummed guitar in the intro lull you into a false sense of security, and with a perfectly timed clearing of the throat, everything explodes into an onslaught of screaming and distortion.

It’s a wonderfully punchy, energetic sound. Grigory’s urgent vocal oozes punk attitude (replete with snarls and screams), but it’s always with control and melodic intent.

The ultimate tale of self-doubt, the lyrics are very conversational, and when you see them written down, it’s hard to imagine how they could ever scan well in a song, but they do!

“If you ever find me with my skull all smashed in pieces
On the dirty concrete of the parking lot (of the convenience store)
Just know I tried my best to jump at least a few inches higher than my head
And that I didn’t quit instead”

When things switch to a halftime beat in the chorus, it emphasizes the deceptively funky hook beautifully and allows the groove to strut rather than sprint.

This is EMO mixed with punk, a dash of prog-metal, loads of melody, and a whole lot of attitude. “Wrong” never felt so right!
