Single: Peli Gene – Fall

Guitar melodies jingle and sparkle like confetti, creating an almost psychedelic vibe that coats your brain with heavy syrup.

The soothing sounds of “Fall” accompany me into October, which seems fitting. This new track from Peli Gene was an instant “add this to your playlist now” kind of experience for me. I’m the type to grasp onto bedroom pop, dreampop, and shoegaze during autumn and don’t release that grip until early spring. If you’re similar, you have to check this single out.

Peli Gene, a moniker for solo artist Gabe Parker, produces all of his music from his Tampa bedroom, and he prides himself on representing the DIY/bedroom pop scene. As someone who constantly listens to that type of music, I have to admit this is easily in my top 5 of the year, without question. “Fall” glows with nostalgia and charm in its instrumentation, vocal tone, and lyrics.

Guitar melodies jingle and sparkle like confetti, creating an almost psychedelic vibe that coats your brain with heavy syrup. The lyrics explore how fleeting every moment is, through the seasons and “big moments” that dot our lives like a glittery constellation. It’s a positive take on these ideas, a reminder to savor each moment and find the joy and bliss in the ever-changing variables and experiences.

Some of my favorite lyrics are:

“On to the unknown
A welcomed change you know
Wait and soak up all the memories
Cause it’s bound to dry up any day
Your eyes are shining oh so brightly
Like a dream as it fades away
I never found the rhyme
And reason for this all
I’ll savor time
And catch leaves as they fall
I see the changes come, watch them as they go
Left alone to rust
Turned to dust we grow”

There’s also a music video on YouTube for “Fall” that is fantastic. It creates such a palpable atmosphere for this track, with VHS effects on the imagery, and showcases the artist’s inspirations in a unique and fun way.

Check out “Fall” right now and satiate that part of you that yearns for autumn nostalgia.
