Single: Peachy Beaches – Parallels

Parallels” is the debut single from Omaha, Nebraska-based bedroom surf pop outfit, Peachy Beaches.

The song begins with atmospheric and twinkly guitar arpeggios that are as precious as the Lisa Frank-esque winged kitty of the single’s cover art. This briefly gives way as a more driving surf rock chord progression and riff makes itself known before the two are joined together into a pleasing mix of the ethereal and the straightforward.

This duality is also present in the playful and saucy vocal delivery that is simultaneously sweet and cynical, echoing like someone contemplating their thoughts out loud into a canyon. Themes of uncertainty, a conflating of dreams, reality, longing, and doubt all swirl together within the lush and catchy instrumentation.

The track keeps a tight rhythm throughout, with metronomic guitar strumming, drumming, and bass that keeps the beat, which creates a perfect storm for head bobbing bliss. There are subtle angelic synth chords and vocal accents sprinkled throughout in a way that is deceptively simple, but very impactful to the song’s feel. Towards the latter portion, we hear a cyclical round singing performed by a ghost choir.

A lovely debut and introduction, we look forward to seeing what Peachy Beaches does next.
