pale fool single cover

Single: Pale – Fool

“Fool” feels like Pale leaning further into what they do best: Big, immersive soundscapes built for losing yourself in.

Pale is the UK-based dreampop project led by Christian Lessells, and their new single “Fool” is a clear showcase of the sound that’s carried them since their debut EP Nights. Pale incorporates reverb-drenched guitars and airy vocals that echo influences like Beach House and Cigarettes After Sex. On “Fool,” that signature sound feels fully realized.

The guitars stretch over everything in soft, psychedelic layers, paired with a simple bass line that puts your body into motion. Underneath the guitars and bass, the drums stay steady, restrained, tight, and precise, landing exactly where they should without overwhelming the haze above them.

The vocals are where Pale’s identity really lives. They sound distant and dreamlike, soaked in reverb until they feel less like a voice and more like a presence drifting through the mix. Lyrically, “Fool” keeps things simple: It talks about being unable to quit someone and feeling insane enough to be willing to die for them. There’s no complexity here on purpose: The words aren’t meant to be too deep; they’re meant to simply dissolve into the atmosphere around them, becoming part of the feeling rather than the focus.

Arriving ahead of the band’s Idols EP, “Fool” feels like Pale leaning further into what they do best: Big, immersive soundscapes built for losing yourself in, with a simple and hypnotic charm that’s quite effective.

Take a listen to “Fool” below.
