Single: Oh Doom! – How To Destroy Anything

Back with another methodical post-rock behemoth that’s more mantra than mere song, Oh Doom! are a force to be reckoned with.

It’s very rare that we agree to review anything without listening to a bit of it first. But, having been made aware of Oh Doom! a few months ago when we reviewed a prior single entitled “This Is Not Home“, there was no way we were missing out on this one. We jumped at the chance to cover it, and boy, are we glad that we did.

The London/Hertfordshire lot are back with another post-rock behemoth. Slow and methodical in their approach – as is their wont – “How To Destroy Anything” feels like it’s alive.

Reminiscent of the recent Hope Of The States stuff mixed with the discipline of Low, the cinematic, musical ambition of Mercury Rev and the brute force of …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, this new tune ebbs and flows with all the hypnotic style and grace of a bird of prey.

More mantra than song, it is a meditative, beguiling piece. Towards the end, a repetitive refrain of the songs title is backed with shouted counter vocals that reminds us a bit of Hell Is For Heroes. It feels like a battle cry before collapsing into a cacophonous orgy of distortion.

An absolute force to be reckoned with, Oh Doom! continue to stake their claim as the most promising and exciting post-rock band in the country. Take a listen to “How To Destroy Anything” below.
