muti’s “Blood” starts with heavy distorted guitars that set a dark tone right away, while the drums quickly become the real engine of the song, tight, energetic, and full of catchy rolls and fills that keep pulling you forward. Against all that weight, the vocals stay soft and breathy, creating a strong contrast that lands well, though a touch more presence in the mix would have let them cut through even more.
Lyrically, the song uses vampire-like imagery to describe a relationship that slowly takes everything out of you. References to blood, veins, and looking in the mirror to see “not much of me left” make the feeling easy to understand. It’s about being so caught up in someone that you slowly lose yourself, even when you know the relationship is hurting you. Knowing the song was written during a dark period between 2020 and 2023 makes those lyrics hit even harder.
The song also does a good job of moving between heavy and quieter moments. The layered backing vocals add depth, while the reverb gives everything a dreamy, almost hypnotic feel. There’s even a small change in the drum pattern near the end, easy to miss at first, but reveals itself after a few listens, a small detail that rewards close attention.
The arrangement and mix are excellent throughout, and “Blood” is a strong, emotionally heavy look into muti’s upcoming EP.
