MoonStar is at their most tender and vaporous on their new single, “Wonder.” This breezy, banjo-laden pop tune is accompanied by gently breathed vocals and a bright acoustic guitar’s rhythmic back-and-forth lulling strum accented by chirpy autoharp chords. All of this works together to create a pleasant sonic gossamer that tangles up the listener like they’re in a hammock in the shade of a lazy, sunny afternoon.
Clocking in under two minutes, the song feels like a fleeting happy daydream. There’s melancholy hiding under the folky, impish instrumentation, like the bittersweet sensation of looking at a photograph of a time gone past that will be missed but will serve as a bright spot in your memory.
