Single: 2:00AM Wake Up Call – CD Age

Picture this: music that sounds so full of energy, like a Saturday morning cartoon theme that you can’t stop singing along to. The guitar sounds like water squirt guns and lemonade sips, the rhythm is hyped just enough to inspire you to take a run somewhere, synths shine like sun rays at the beach, and multi-instrumentalist, producer, and frontwoman Emily Leith’s drawl-syrupy vocals are in the middle of the action. But rather than a song letting you know what a good time you will have this weekend, it is about how media formats of all kinds have changed over the years, and with the formats changing goes the ability to own the media. Cowabunga gnarly!

Leith plays observer as she sings, “We don’t own a thing anymore/and that’s how we like it/Another piece of life to pay rent for/It helps to turn a profit.” But the music is so gleeful that you can hardly mourn the evolution. So gleeful that you won’t have time to question if the bounciness is secretly part of the situational irony.

The music video shows Emily hanging with a character named Michael, who plays both a date and an edgy troll whose fate shall befall many who love him.
