Single: look at fiona. – 4play

“4play is a lush art rock anthem about tossing and turning in bed, yearning over a crush.

This is a little quote that accompanied a single shared with us recently by a band we’ve covered before. As I mentioned in my last post, I am rarely covering music these days, as managing this blog is actually taking up all the time I had set aside for this free-time activity. I listened to all of the submissions myself, so everything that is on our blog was heard by me. However, it sometimes struggles to remember the reason why I decided to approve some submissions.

The newest single from this Denver-based band is labelled as “coastal dream pop from the continental divide.” If I didn’t know the band was from Colorado, I would think it was from the West Coast. The song is filled with summer, sunshine vibes, and an ocean breeze. Dream pop has always been connected for me with the beach and the ocean. Perhaps I like the sound because it reminds me of waves crashing on a sandy beach. The single is beautifully crafted, and I loved the atmosphere it creates.

I have been listening to a lot of dream pop over the past few months, and I’ve grown bored with the sound. However, this band is somehow making it more unique. They are adding such a great touch to the song that they stand out, and it is well-crafted, and the band knows how to create a beautiful dream pop song that will leave you impressed for a while. I have been listening to the music on repeat to fully immerse myself in the lush atmosphere, dreamy soundscapes, and even the lyrics, which I am sharing below.

I have been mesmerised, and I bet that after you listen to it, you will just get lost for hours.

Lyrics:

to feel her pulse
poke the monster

elastic smile
thinning dream

could you swing
everlasting?

smother me
’till i can breathe

Ooo woah x4

(kennady)
every scar
I’ve wanted

(jeremy)
I’ve wanted
I’ve wanted
I’ve wanted

(kennady)
this touch
i’ll sway

(jeremy)
whatever u say

butterfly
in my stomach

up all night
blush and smile
smile and sigh
try and try

could you swing
everlasting?

with each small shrug
you got me gasping
