Single: Lana Leone – Paper Cranes

Deeply romantic “Paper Cranes” is full of ecstasy and delight while channeling Lana Leone’s dark shoegaze sound.

Imagine this: you stand in the sun watching a paper crane float lazily down stream, and suddenly it sprouts technicolor wings and flies into you, filling your senses with ecstasy and delight. Now imagine that if it were a sound. That’s the best way I can describe Lana Leone’s new single, “Paper Cranes”.

This song has everything you could want out of a good shoegaze number. Ethereal vocals, pounding drums, and wailing guitars all get jammed into a blender and somehow come out sounding like the voice of a biblically accurate angel. It doesn’t get much better than that.

We covered the band’s last single, “Isabell,” recently and were equally impressed with its power. While that track leans much heavier on the distortion, this latest song has a more playful aspect to it. The guitars hit this bend in the chorus, which lead singer Alana Christen mimics in the vocals, that is just addicting to listen to.

There’s something deeply Romantic about the track (that’s capital-R “Romantic” like the literature) in that it captures the feeling of witnessing natural beauty so well. While a lot of Lana Leone’s work has an alluring darkness to it, “Paper Cranes” is distinctly bright, just like the future of this band.

Check out the track on Youtube or streaming. Maybe consider buying one of their EPs on Bandcamp. And definitely keep an eye out for what they have cooking next.
