Single: Kid Finish – Hips, Lips and Fingertips

LA pop-punkers on the fringe of the scene drop a throwback track of pure emo bliss from their new retrospective of remixes and remasters.

Kid Finish are one of the many pop-punk bands that sprung up in the early 2000s, along with groups like Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Eat World, Good Charlotte, and more. They originally formed as Leftover in 2002, and while they released just one album under that name and three more after renaming as Kid Finish, they stayed strong for nearly a quarter-century.

Now the LA-based quintet has released Leftover, a 26-track retrospective compilation featuring remixed and remastered versions of songs from throughout their history. “Hips, Lips and Fingertips” is one of those songs, and it’s a throwback to the raw major-key emo bliss of the Aughts, before it became the darling of major record labels which spilled too many layers of varnish on the vibe.

“Hips, Lips and Fingertips” sounds like the best tracks from some of emo’s finest names, which might make you wonder where Kid Finish have been all this time if not at the forefront of the scene? Call it oversaturation of the market or just missing the cutoff before the pop punk wave gave way to the 2010s crazes of stomp-clamp and EDM. So it’s good that Kid Finish have put out songs like “Hips, Lips and Fingertips” on Leftovers, as a reminder of all the great pop punk bands that existed on the fringes of the scene.

Also, any emo song with a piano in the background is going to get my attention. I certainly hope you share my sentiment.

Take a listen to “Hips, Lips and Fingertips” below.
