Single: kamikaze – Stop the Sky

Cologne/Düsseldorf-based indie duo Kamikaze have unveiled their third recent single – the infectious and instantaneous Stop the Sky.

It’s a lo-fi indie-punk tune – undeniably poppy but at the same time incredibly artistic and super stylised with touches of Lush, X-Ray Spex, Alvvays and recent discovery Mannequin Flowers.

The jangly arpeggio guitars shimmer and shake with all the pizazz and prowess of Hatful Of Hollow-era Johnny Marr, the vocals expertly flit between dreamy and hazy in the verses to spat and spunky in the chorus, and the rhythm section holds it all together with balance and grace.

“I don’t care, what you mean / you don’t hurt what you don’t love” goes the anthemic, distinctly chantable chorus. Stop the Sky is about, in the words of Flo and Jessi, “the tension between inner longing and outer overwhelm”. How very relatable.

Stop The Sky, as well as the two singles that preceded it, are taken from their forthcoming as-yet-untitled 2026 debut album.
