Joker’s Republic released their third and final pre-release single for their upcoming album, “The Hand You’ve Been Dealt”. Scheduled for release on October 10, the album is their first album on their new label Punkerton Records, and with this single, we get confirmation of what we already knew from the previous two singles- that this album is going to focus heavily on mental health.
This track feels a lot more punk than the previous songs, and the backing vocals make the song feel much bigger than a three-piece performance by adding texture throughout the song. The song features solid instrumental sections, some aggressive drumming, good breakdowns, and mostly amazing backing vocals to add depth and texture throughout the song. My favorite lyric from the song “they say that misery, she loves her company, I don’t want to leave her out to dry” is a really solid line. Honestly, this is a very solid track, and it really shows off some of the range on the album as it is far more punk than the other two tracks despite the very ska rhythm through the verses to keep the song danceable. While this is definitely my least favorite of the pre-release singles, that says a lot more about how good the other two singles are than anything negative about this song.
With the album releasing in less than a month, be sure to pre-order today and check out their website for tour dates, as they have several East Coast US dates coming up.
