“This song is about growing up and realising that you don’t have to be perfect or conform to the ways your friends, family or the world might want you to. The story is narrated from the perspective of a young girl going through serious body image issues and pressure to be someone they might not necessarily be. The verses talk about this and the chorus aims to reclaim a sense of independence and self worth.
For this one we really tried to pull and push our sound at once. We wanted to capture some of the driving acoustics and synths of bands we love like The Cure and The Smiths whilst still sitting in a more modern context of newer favourites like The Beaches, Holly Humberstone and Blossoms. We’re pretty proud of the in between we’ve found with those references in mind whilst sticking true to the original sound we’ve been developing for the last couple of years.”
